Mr. Allen Alevy is the founder of Westland Real Estate Group, The Alevy Company, and it’s subsidiaries. An active real estate investor for over 50 years, Mr. Alevy, together with his family and team, has acquired a diverse commercial and residential portfolio. He has extensive experience and a proven track record in recognizing and capitalizing on opportunities.

Raised in a Los Angeles housing project, Mr. Alevy experienced many hardships growing up. This hostile environment drove him to seek a better life for himself and his family. From the age of eight, he worked on the weekends for his grandfather’s scrap-metal business, eventually starting his own scrap-metal business when his grandfather retired. When the price of steel dropped the business was no longer profitable, but Mr. Alevy found a way to spring back. He had been working weekends for a carnival and came up with a plan to book fairs that would travel to shopping malls. Despite many telling him the idea wouldn’t work, the carnivals became a big success. He was able to buy and run his own carnivals, eventually operating the California State Fair, and becoming a founding member of Circus Circus Casino in Las Vegas.

While operating the California State Fair, Mr. Alevy built a mobile home park on the fairgrounds for the employees. After selling the State Fair in 1976, he noticed a mobile home park for sale in Long Beach and knew he could make a success of it. He bought the park and a real estate business was born. One of the first improvements he made to the property was to build a laundromat for the residents which lead to a laundromat business that needed more stores. Mr. Alevy built shopping centers for them and the retail properties department began. With a keen eye for underutilized businesses, Mr. Alevy directed the company to expand into apartment buildings in the 1990s. Through excellent management, the properties increased in value and improved the communities. Today, the multi-family residential department has over 12,000 units in Los Angeles County and Las Vegas.

Working across residential buildings, retail properties, and mobile homes, Mr. Alevy considers himself to be in the people business. “Every industry I’ve worked in, I’ve been in the people business. I love people and community,” he says.

Mr. Alevy is most proud of the company’s team members, all of whom he considers family. “When you build a company, it’s like a child, and you raise it like a child. Now, the child has children and grandchildren. Everyone at Westland is my family. We have employees whose children now work at the company. Walk around that office and you’ll see what makes me proud.”

The Alevy Family supports many national charitable institutions as well as local organizations both communal and educational. Proud of the proactive role he has taken over the years, Mr. Alevy believes that corporate responsibility centered in and around the community will yield far-reaching benefits to the individual, to the family, and society at large.

One of Mr. Alevy’s highlights is hosting a bi-annual free carnival for Southern California police officers and their families. “These are people who everyday go to work and aren’t sure if they are going to come home to their family at night. I want to show my appreciation.”

Mr. Alevy is blessed with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; many of whom have followed him into the business.
